Planned Attacks on Sanders Included in WikiLeaks' Third Batch of

WikiLeaks released the third installment of its cache of Hillary Clinton campaign manager John Podesta's hacked emails early Tuesday, revealing the inner workings of the Clinton camp's efforts to spin news items and influence reporting; their strategies to take down the presidential campaign of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.); and the often cozy relationship between Podesta and corporate lobbyists.

For instance, one email featured Gordon Giffin, a lobbyist for TransCanada, the company behind the Keystone XL pipeline, asking Podesta personally to secure a seat for him at the White House state dinner with Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. "Giffin is a [so-called] 'Hillblazer' who has contributed or raised at least $100,000 for Clinton and her joint funds with the Democratic Party," Politico observed.

Another exchange shows top aides struggling to spin contentious moments, including a statement Clinton made last February about her vote for a 2001 bankruptcy bill that favored credit card companies. Clinton said she was pressured to vote for the legislation by women's groups.

LABOR SECRETARY ADVISED CLINTON TO CAST SANDERS AS CANDIDATE OF

Labor Secretary Tom Perez, who has spent a considerable amount of time boosting Hillary Clinton's campaign, offered advice in February on how to change the narrative so people of color were discouraged from supporting Bernie Sanders.

The advice was sent in an email to Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta, which was published as part of a third batch of emails released by WikiLeaks.

"Nevada is an opportunity to fight back on so many levels," Perez argued. "First, the current storyline is that she does not connect well with young voters. Given that Nevada is far more demographically representative of America, I am confident that HRC can do well with all African Americans, Latinos, and Asian Americans (don't forget the sizeable [sic] population of Asian Americans in Nevada, including Filipinos.)."

Perez continued, "Emmy and the team have a good plan to attract all minority voters. When we do well there, then the narrative changes from Bernie kicks ass among young voters to Bernie does well only among young white liberals—that is a different story and a perfect lead in to South Carolina, where once again, we can work to attract young voters of color. So I think Nevada is a real opportunity, and I would strongly urge HRC to get out there within a couple days of [New Hampshire]."

Senior advisor Caitlin Klevorick repeatedly referenced "FOBs" and "WJC VIPs" (William Jefferson Clinton VIPs) in email exchanges given to ABC by the Republican National Committee.

A drug used to treat lead poisoning is causing a toxic reaction among hospitals and poison control centers after Valeant Pharmaceuticals jacked up the price more than 2,700 percent in a single year.

At issue is a decades-old, intravenous treatment for severe and life-threatening cases of lead poisoning, which occur infrequently, but generally require supplies to be on hand.

Known as Calcium EDTA, Valeant acquired the drug in 2013 as part of a $2.6 billion deal to buy another company called Medicis.

After resolving manufacturing problems that caused shortages, Valeant pursued the hallmark strategy that made it infamous — taking sky-high price hikes. Before Valeant took control, the list price for a package of vials had been stable at $950. But in January 2014, Valeant boosted the price to $7,116. By December 2014, several more increases took the price to $26,927, according to Truven Health Analytics.

Protesters in Montana, Minnesota, North Dakota and Washington state successfully turned off valves on pipelines that flow from Canada's oil sands into the United States, said Climate Direct Action, adding that there were at least nine arrests

In a press release, the group said it had attempted to shut the pipelines in support of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, which has been protesting the construction of the US$3.7 billion Dakota Access pipeline that would carry oil from North Dakota to the U.S. Gulf Coast over fears of potential damage to sacred lands and water supplies.

Politicians are celebrating a decline in the poverty rate; there's just one problem: it doesn't really measure poverty

Contributed by: smkngman3

The media describes people "climbing" out of poverty, as if they have at last crested Everest and can finally breathe that crisp, middle-class air. But all they've really done is crossed an arbitrary threshold used to determine social-program eligibility.

Still, Republicans and Democrats alike frame their social programs, no matter how different, in terms of fighting poverty. And the metric of their success is often based on the poverty rate.

Yet for all its mystique, the poverty rate is nothing more than an outdated administrative marker, set far below any remotely sensible definition of a decent life. The consequences for poor people in need of the social services that are distributed based on that marker are often devastating.

What did Trump accomplish in 18 hours?

Contributed by: Bobbylon

Source

He rattled Hillary Clinton, firmed up and rallied his base, halted the stampede of the cut-and-run Republicans, and exposed the hypocrisy of liberal and secular celebrants of the '60s "sexual revolution," who have suddenly gotten religion where Trump is involved.

Trump exposed the fraudulence of the Clintons' clucking concern for sexually abused women, brought Pence back into camp, turned the tables and changed the subject from the Trump tapes to the Trump triumph at Washington University.

Upshot: The Donald is alive.

While his path to 270 electoral votes still looks more than problematic, there is a month to go before the election, and anything can happen.

"Clinton adviser Podesta connects Trump campaign to WikiLeaks"

A top adviser to Hillary Clinton on Tuesday accused a longtime Donald Trump aide of receiving "advance warning" about WikiLeaks' plans to publish thousands of hacked emails and suggested the Republican candidate is aiding the unprecedented Russian interference in American politics.

MsPythia: We've lost our constitutional rights, and what they're doing is taking them away, and no one is noticing. What's been going on at #NoDAPL will get worse. As ObamaCare Death Spiral Continues, Flailing Institutions Attempt

Contributed by: ARIC

Source

The crux of the matter is what economists call the adverse-selection problem. Uninsured people with pre-existing conditions often face tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket medical costs annually. If insurers charged everyone the same rate, buying coverage would be far more attractive financially for people with chronic illnesses than for healthy people. And as healthy policyholders began dropping out of the insured pool, it would become increasingly composed of sick people, forcing insurers to raise their rates. …. But higher rates make insurance even less attractive for healthy people, causing even more of them to drop out. Before long, coverage would become too expensive for almost everyone.

DO NOT RESIST - THE POLICE MILITARIZATION DOCUMENTARY EVERYONE SHOULD SEE

Contributed by: smkngman3

Source

The pernicious practice of civil asset forfeiture, which allows law enforcement to grab cash or property during the course of raids, then requires people to prove the assets were not related to criminal activity in order to get them back — and allows police to keep the assets if they fail to do so — has been well documented.

What's less common is to see one of those interactions play out on camera. Capturing those kinds of moments is what "Do Not Resist" is all about.

An individual at the center of the more than year long DOJ and FBI investigation into Hillary Clintons private email server is speaking out, and that person has a lot to say, according to Fox News. Much of it directly at odds with remarks by FBI Director James Comey.

Speaking with Fox News on the condition of anonymity, the individual reportedly says career FBI agents and attorneys involved in the Clinton investigation were left feeling demoralized after Director Comey announced charges would not be recommended in the case.
