Democrats, Trump and the Ongoing, Dangerous Refusal to Learn the Lesson of Brexit

Contributed by: cathyx

The indisputable fact is that prevailing institutions of authority in the west, for decades, have relentlessly and with complete indifference stomped on the economic welfare and social security of hundreds of millions of people. While elite circles gorged themselves on globalism, free trade, Wall Street casino-gambling and endless wars (wars that enriched the perpetrators and sent the poorest and most marginalized to bear all their burdens), they completely ignored the victims of their gluttony, except when those victims piped up a bit too much - when they caused a ruckus - and were then scornfully condemned as troglodytes who were the deserved losers in the glorious, global game of meritocracy.

That message was heard loud and clear. The institutions and elite factions that have spent years mocking, maligning and pillaging large portions of the population - all while compiling their own long record of failure and corruption and destruction - are now shocked that their dictates and decrees go unheeded. But human beings are not going to follow and obey the exact people they most blame for their suffering. They're going to do exactly the opposite: purposely defy them and try to impose punishment in retaliation. Their instruments for retaliation are Brexit and Trump.

Why Trump Won; Why Clinton Lost

In the end, Hillary Clinton became the face of a corrupt, arrogant and out-of-touch Establishment, while Donald Trump emerged as an almost perfectly imperfect vessel for a populist fury that had bubbled beneath the surface of America.

There is clearly much to fear from a Trump presidency, especially coupled with continued Republican control of Congress. Trump and many Republicans have denied the reality of climate change; they favor more tax cuts for the rich; they want to deregulate Wall Street and other powerful industries - all policies that helped create the current mess that the United States and much of the world are now in.

"Misogyny has proved its enduring electoral strength."

In response to the cite article, this was my response:

The author of this piece completely lost me in the opening - why read the rest of it? - with this line:

"Misogyny has proved its enduring electoral strength."

That mythology was created by the Hillary campaign and used to slander tens of thousands of real Progressives who didn't like Hillary as a candidate and didn't want her as their President. Oh oh oh oh, now I'm a misogynist because I think she's corrupt, has horrible policies, and might well get us into war with Russia? Oh Please!

We, the actual Progressives, tried to warn you that Hillary was an unviable candidate, that Bernie Sanders was the choice - the better candidate, with better policies, better liked, and with MUCH better odds against Trump - and for our pains we were denigrated, mocked, ridiculed, insulted, called children, rainbow chasers, unicorn dreamers, made subject of sexual epithets (like "misogynist!"), treated as personas non grata, and chased off "progressive" blogs as if we were the enemy.

Now we are all stuck with Trump, many of the more progressive voices were removed from office - Hillary had the opposite of "Coat Tails" - and now the R's hold all three branches of government. Well, enjoy the disaster you who think we are misogynists have wrought. Congratulations, you got what you wanted, a Hillary candidacy at any cost.

I don't know that people like this author, who think people who didn't want Hillary must be misogynists, can come to grips with their complicity in the disaster that was Hillary's campaign. Are they genuine Progressives / Liberals? Or, are they sheepdogging for the right? I dare say most are the latter, though they may not even realize it! A huge fraction of people who say they're "on the left", "liberal", or even "progressive" are actually tools of the right, the fascist state, and a great many of these may not even realize it.

I urge all of you to look carefully at the rhetoric you're being fed and use good judgement on what people are trying to stuff into your brain. If you don't reject this neoliberalism it's going to give you demagoguery ala Trump - as it has just done. GET IT that people are hurting, upset, see a corrupted system and see Hillary (rightfully in my view) as a major player in that corrupt system, and that they don't so much see Trump as someone they like or agree with, but that he's a "human Molotov cocktail that they get to toss" at the system.

Trump's Victory Speech, Hillary's Concession Speech, and Podesta's Concession for Hillary

On Election Night, Hillary Clinton was either unwilling or unable to give a concession speech. Many may speculate about that but her Campaign Chair, John Podesta, gave a speech for her. Find Podesta's speech here. Note, though, that in no way is it a concession speech. I'm sure they were in full denial.

Trump, however, gave a victory speech. Find Trumps Victory Speech here.

In late Morning the next day, Hillary finally gave a concession speech. Find Hillary's Concession Speech here. Note that the video is over an hour long, but that's because Hillary was a no-show... Eventually, after 37 minutes of nothing at all, Tim Kaine, her VP pick, comes on and stalls for Hillary, but, perhaps thankfully, there's no audio! FUNNY, and this is the ABC News feed! The sound comes in at around 40 minutes in... Yeah, the cameramen weren't too concerned about what Kain said either! ...Hillary herself comes on at about 43:15.

150,000 ballots have already been counted before the proper procedures took place in Broward County, Florida. Florida officials have been caught filling absentee ballots.

According to a former Secretary of Elections Department employee, there is a secret room where Democrat insiders fill out those absentee ballots. The woman has provided her sworn testimony via affidavit. Here is part of document:

Donald Trump is moving to the White House, and liberals put him there

She was the Democratic candidate because it was her turn and because a Clinton victory would have moved every Democrat in Washington up a notch. Whether or not she would win was always a secondary matter, something that was taken for granted. Had winning been the party's number one concern, several more suitable candidates were ready to go. There was Joe Biden, with his powerful plainspoken style, and there was Bernie Sanders, an inspiring and largely scandal-free figure. Each of them would probably have beaten Trump, but neither of them would really have served the interests of the party insiders.

And so Democratic leaders made Hillary their candidate even though they knew about her closeness to the banks, her fondness for war, and her unique vulnerability on the trade issue - each of which Trump exploited to the fullest. They chose Hillary even though they knew about her private email server. They chose her even though some of those who studied the Clinton Foundation suspected it was a sketchy proposition.

To try to put over such a nominee while screaming that the Republican is a rightwing monster is to court disbelief. If Trump is a fascist, as liberals often said, Democrats should have put in their strongest player to stop him, not a party hack they'd chosen because it was her turn. Choosing her indicated either that Democrats didn't mean what they said about Trump's riskiness, that their opportunism took precedence over the country's well-being, or maybe both.

From Hillary's constant war threats to Russia to this? Whew...

RTIII

This just proves we were right to be oh so concerned about a Hillary presidency and war with Russia. She very well may have gotten us into war with Russia and it could possibly have created a nuclear conflagration. Thankfully, we will never know for sure!

And then they said...

Exit polls show Clinton underperformed with black and Hispanic voters

Contributed by: smkngman3

Source

Trump took 29% of the Hispanic vote, whereas Romney only claimed 27%. It's a markedly higher result than anticipated, particularly from a candidate who once characterized Mexicans as "rapists" and whose platform included building a wall along the US-Mexico border and organizing mass deportations of undocumented immigrants.

Yet despite a surge in early voting among Hispanics in states like Florida, Arizona, and Nevada, which boosted expectations of a Clinton victory, she ended up winning just 65% of the Hispanic vote - down from Obama's 71% in 2012.

The black vote, too, has mystified pundits, who believed that Trump's hyperbolic claims about black communities residing in crime-laden inner cities would have more severely depressed his performance among the demographic.

Instead, Trump claimed 8% of the black vote - a low number, but still two percentage points higher than Romney had received in 2012.

Marijuana was on the ballot in nine states on Tuesday: Voters in four states-Florida, Montana, North Dakota and Arkansas-were asked to cast their votes on medical marijuana initiatives, while voters in five others-California, Nevada, Arizona, Massachusetts, and Maine - were asked to legalize it recreationally for those 21 and older.

Of those nine states, eight voted to stop kidnapping, caging, and killing people over a plant, with Arizona being the only one stuck in the stone age. While it is not yet official, the legalization measure in Maine is 50.3% to 49.7% with over 90% reporting.
