Leaked Files Show U.S. Armed And Trained Both Sides of War in Yemen"

The documents were produced and exchanged during Hillary Clinton's term as Secretary of State, as well as during the first two years of John Kerry's tenure, ending just as the Yemen war broke out.

Because Yemen controls an area of the Middle East "through which 11 percent of the world's petroleum passes each day," WikiLeaks reported in the Yemen files opening page, Saudi Arabia's interest in the country revolves around the Arabian Sea.

With both Iran and the United States having signed a nuclear deal - a development that did not please the Saudis - Iran's return to the global oil markets could soon become a reality. Many argue that because of Iran's close ties to neighboring countries like Syria, Saudi Arabia has reason to fear Iran's presence as a competitor.

Army will not grant easement for Dakota Access Pipeline crossing

By U.S. ArmyDecember 4, 2016 Army POC: Moira Kelley (703) 614-3992, moira.l.kelley.civ@mail.mil The Department of the Army will not approve an easement that would allow the proposed Dakota Access Pipeline to cross under Lake Oahe in North Dakota, the Army's Assistant Secretary for Civil Works announced today.

Jo-Ellen Darcy said she based her decision on a need to explore alternate routes for the Dakota Access Pipeline crossing. Her office had announced on November 14, 2016 that it was delaying the decision on the easement to allow for discussions with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, whose reservation lies 0.5 miles south of the proposed crossing. Tribal officials have expressed repeated concerns over the risk that a pipeline rupture or spill could pose to its water supply and treaty rights.

"Although we have had continuing discussion and exchanges of new information with the Standing Rock Sioux and Dakota Access, it's clear that there's more work to do," Darcy said. "The best way to complete that work responsibly and expeditiously is to explore alternate routes for the pipeline crossing."

Darcy said that the consideration of alternative routes would be best accomplished through an Environmental Impact Statement with full public input and analysis.

The Dakota Access Pipeline is an approximately 1,172 mile pipeline that would connect the Bakken and Three Forks oil production areas in North Dakota to an existing crude oil terminal near Pakota, Illinois. The pipeline is 30 inches in diameter and is projected to transport approximately 470,000 barrels of oil per day, with a capacity as high as 570,000 barrels. The current proposed pipeline route would cross Lake Oahe, an Army Corps of Engineers project on the Missouri River.

Completely Clueless: Pelosi: Dems don't want 'new direction'"

Contributed by: smkngman3

Source

House minority leader Nancy Pelosi downplayed problems with the Democratic Party, saying that the party's values "unify us."

"I don't think that people want a new direction," Pelosi said on CBS' "Face the Nation" on Sunday. "Our values are supporting working families. What we want is a better connection of our message to working families."

Wrong Again: Lieberman: "Dems won't win with slide to left"

"Here is my fear about the future of the Democratic Party. In a way, relatively speaking, Hillary Clinton was representative of ... center-left of the Democratic Party, not the pure left," Lieberman said in a radio interview with John Catsimatidis on Sunday.

"Now I think there will be a real attempt by the left-left of the Democratic Party to take over the party, and I don't think that's the way to go to make it an effective party," he continued.

"It's certainly not the party that I got drawn to ... it's not the party that I worked so hard for when Bill Clinton was president and it's not going to be a winning party."

Dear Lieberman: You are and always have been a Republican!

The Private Deportation Machine"

Contributed by: smkngman3

Source

Deportation has become a billion-dollar industry. Between the second quarter of 2014 and 2015, Corrections Corporations of America's (CCA) earnings leaped by $49 million. A single CCA facility in Dilley, Texas generated $100 million in the first half of 2015 alone.

CCA can thank desperate asylum seekers from Central America for their success; the border surge motivated the Obama administration to award it a billion-dollar deal to build a family detention center for women and infants.

This is all made possible because Congress mandates that immigration enforcement fill a daily quota of beds. CCA and the GEO Group have become the two largest private contractors. The profit motive directly compromises the judicial system, as these companies are incentivized to detain as many people for as long as possible. As a result, the private deportation machine gets rich from impoverished immigrants by violating their basic rights.

The Smear Campaign Against Keith Ellison Is Repugnant but Reveals Much About Washington

EVER SINCE HE announced his candidacy to lead the Democratic National Committee, Keith Ellison, the first American Muslim elected to the U.S. Congress, has been the target of a defamation campaign that is deceitful, repugnant, and yet quite predictable. At first expressed in whispers, but now being yelled from the rooftops by some of the party's most influential figures, Ellison is being smeared as both an anti-Semite and enemy of Israel - the same smears virtually any critic of the Israeli government reflexively encounters, rendered far worse if the critic is a prominent American Muslim.

Three days ago, the now ironically named Anti-Defamation League pronounced Ellison's 2010 comments about Israel "deeply disturbing and disqualifying." Other Israel advocates have now joined in. What are Ellison's terrible sins? He said in a 2010 speech that while he "wanted the U.S. to be friends with Israel," the U.S. "can't allow another country to treat us like we're their ATM."

As the full speech makes clear, he was referring to the indisputable fact that while Israel continues to take billions of dollars every year from the U.S. - far more than any other country receives in aid - it continually disregards and violates U.S. requests to stop ongoing expansion of illegal Israeli settlements, often in ways seemingly designed to impose the greatest humiliation on its benefactor:

First Major Clinical Trials Show Magic Mushrooms Heal Mental Illness like a 'Surgical Intervention'

Now, as the injustice of the drug war is fully exposed, research is again turning to the amazing, natural power of psilocybin. William Richards at Johns Hopkins University has been dosing people with psilocybin for 15 years, and in 2006 published his first study demonstrating positive therapeutic results.

That study provided the impetus for a rapid expansion in psychedelic research. On December 1, results of the first two major clinical trials were published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology - showing yet again psilocybin's remarkable effect on depression and end-of-life stress.

So happy about today's NODAPL victory, but...

But I seriously cannot fucking handle these partisan loyalist fuckers who are washing Obama with praise for making a fucking decision that he should have made way sooner. Fuck Democrats. Obama and Warren most of all. A woman had to have her fucking arm blown off before he made this decision. Veterans had to show up inviting these pigs to harm them as well before this bastard made this decision. Shame on him. Shame on Democrats.

You get no fucking props whatsoever. Fuck you. This was the easiest question on the "Am I a Liberal?" exam, and you took months to answer. Obama's principles and humanity were not the reason for this decision. Fear of a full on fucking insurrection is what led to the corporate rapists on Wall Street and in Government standing down. This was a defeat of Obama and co. Not a demonstration of their values. A defeat of his duplicitous bullshit and his paymasters.

This isn't even a genuine reversal of Democratic policies which lead to this horrid circumstance. At best it's a fucking attempt to quell the movement that's underway. We need to stay the fucking course and sustain the pressure. They'll be back after they regroup and undoubtedly have an even more insidious and genocidal plan of attack. The corporate state was trying to incite the next world war with Russia. I have no doubt their resolve to annihilate the environment is unperturbed.

Civil Rights History Inspires New Generation Injustice Boycott

Contributed by: smkngman3

"On Dec. 5, 2016 we are launching a boycott unlike anything this nation has seen since the Civil Rights Movement"

That's the pledge ushering in the soon-to-be-launched Injustice Boycott on the movement's nearly 70 thousand-strong Facebook page. It's an initiative that has been spearheaded by prominent racial justice advocate Shaun King and is expected to see participation from 75,000 people from all U.S. 50 states.

The new movement is inspired by the 381 day-long Montgomery Bus Boycott, which began on the same date six decades ago during the civil rights era under the leadership of Dr. Martin Luther King after Rosa Parks' historic refusal to give up her seat to a white woman on a bus in Montgomery on Dec. 1, 1955. Reimagined for the 21st century, the Injustice Boycott is against cities, states, businesses, and institutions in a broad campaign to demand an end to police brutality.
