"As More Diverted Floodwaters Head Their Way, Dolphins Keep Dying in Louisiana"
By Julie Dermansky

A story about a number of interlocking events and long-term trends. Floods in states along the Mississippi bringing massive amounts of water to Louisiana, thus requiring the opening of the spillway into Lake Pontchartrain above New Orleans, leading to polluted, agricultural-runoff waters entering dolphin habitats, causing increased die-off rates in Gulf of Mexico.

Meanwhile:

On May 1, [Louisiana] Gov. John Bel Edwards tripled-down on climate denial at the Grow Louisiana Coalition "Oil and Natural Gas Industry Day" in Baton Rouge. Edwards acknowledges that the climate is changing but diverges from mainstream climate science by saying he is unsure what humanity's role is. His stance is echoed by his administration's efforts to welcome new oil and gas industry projects in the state, including numerous petrochemical plants.
